Kristine Bowman serves as the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Education at Michigan State University, where she is jointly appointed as a Professor of Law and Professor of Education Policy.
Bowman’s leadership of a unit of over 20 staff members with a budget of roughly $3M is collaborative and inclusive. Her unit supports undergraduate and graduate students through all phases of their academic journey and spearheads innovations such as developing college-based certificates and other alternative credentials.
Bowman is also an international expert in education law and policy, having published roughly thirty articles and book chapters, written or (co)edited four books, and presented regularly across the U.S. and in more than a dozen countries around the world. She writes about liberty and equality at all levels of education, often focusing on racial and ethnic equity and free speech.
Bowman holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia; a J.D. magna cum laude and M.A. from Duke University; and a B.A. summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Drake University.
